Miller DermiVex Drain - MDD

Miller DermiVex Drain - MMD

The Miller Dermivex Drain (MDD) is a soft funnel shaped, plastic wound dressing. It is used to provide a non-contact menas of applying NPWT to a wound without contacting it’s surface. This results in little to no pain related to contact of the wound while maintaining the benefits of negative pressure in a closed wound environment.

The MDD has a slightly elliptical shape with concentric rings. Owing to it’s soft, compressible nature, it is used with pressures in the range of 40 – 60 mmHg. Pressures above this range cause an inversion of the drain into and contacting the wound, thus defeating the purpose of the non-contact technique. The non-contact technology embodied by the MDD allows for all of the benefits of NPWT without the untoward effects of contacting the wound surface including pain, and prevention of epithelialization.

Equally important, it is simple to apply and remove. Stabilization is accomplished by application of two small pieces of adhesive tape on the edges used to secure the drain in position. As the wound size decreases, the concentric rings can be cut off to allow for 1.1 to 1.5 cm margin from the wound edges. The addition of the suction pressure will itself hold the drain in place to the peri-wound area.
