Miller DermiVex Encompass Drain - MDED

Miller DermiVex Encompass Drain - MDED Miller DermiVex Encompass Drain - MDED

A modification of the Miller Dermivex Drain exists, marketed under the name: Miller Encompass Drain (MED).

The MED is also a non-contact NPWT device which is similar to the MDD in that it covers the wound and provides a seal around it. The benefits to the patient are similar to those of the MDD. The difference is that the MDED is made of a heavier grade plastic thus precluding the amount of inversion into the wound. The unique stair step configuration allows for greater pressures to be applied to the wound surface as the levels of the MED will “telescope” towards the wound without the risk of inversion and contacting the wound. In contrast to the MDD, the MED is better suited for wounds on “flatter” surfaces (abdomen, chest, posterior thorax, etc). Each layer/level of the MED has a flat edge (flange) that assures a complete seal. As the wound circumference is reduced through healing, the MDED should also reduce by sharply removing one of the “walls” circumferentially, thus allowing for a 1.5 – 2 cm margin from the wound edge. It is recommended that 2 small pieces of adhesive tape be used with this device to prevent lateral shifting.

The key to using both the MDD and MDED is that they allow for application of NPWT at a time deemed appropriate by the Provider to start healing of a wound but, need not be removed as they are ideal for continuation of therapy to complete epithelialization.
